Coming from Sao Paulo, the biggest and most densely populated city in Brazil, Dr Andre and his family are well aware of the devastating impact that poverty can have on a society and its people.

We firmly believe in the importance of helping each other and the less fortunate and doing our part for the growth and benefit of our community. The Smile Place Mt Eliza is actively involved in many charities, fundraising efforts and research projects throughout the year, locally, nationally and abroad.

You can find out more about the projects we currently support in the links below:

Mt Eliza My Fun Run

The MY Mt Eliza Festival is an annual event that brings together people of all ages and fitness levels for a fun and active day out. The event at the Mount Eliza Regional Park features a 4km, 8km & 12km Quarry Trail Run and a 4km All Paws Walk with your pooch!

The MY Mount Eliza Festival was founded by Mount Eliza local Geoff Nyssen, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2014 at the age of 40. Geoff is determined to live until he is 80, and we plan to join him for the party!

Since 2017, the MY Mount Eliza Run & Fun Festival has raised over $320,000 for the Snowdome Foundation. These funds go directly to myeloma patient support and blood cancer research and trials.

Bali children

Bali Childrens Foundation

Bali Children Foundation helps thousands of children to complete school, find employment, and to improve their lives and the life of their community in Bali, Indonesia.

Since 2002, BCF has worked one step at a time to help poor, remote, or disaster-impacted villages. After identifying a village with disadvantaged families, our local staff members work with local leaders to introduce families to BCF and the opportunities our scholarships and curriculum provided.

In areas of disaster, such as in the village of Songan, which suffered severe landslides at the beginning of 2017, or in Lombok, with the devastating earthquakes in August of 2018, BCF moves in to assist after disaster responses are finalised.

BCF facilitates funds for partner charities, which deliver health and dental care, disability management and environmental protection solutions during disasters, and afterwards, BCF awards Scholarships, English as a Foreign Language, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Calistung (Remedial reading, writing and numeracy), and tertiary education opportunities.

We have been very proud sponsors of 8 school-aged children since early 2019. Dr Andre and his family recently had the opportunity to meet the children and their families and see the results of their support first-hand.

Kiva

As per Scott Pape’s Barefoot Investor book, Kiva is an international nonprofit founded in 2005 with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.

This is done by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, improving the quality and cost of financial services, and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access worldwide.

Through Kiva’s work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers can invest in equipment, and families can afford needed emergency care.

Our practice, so far, has provided over 500 microloans, focusing on women’s education and sustainable agriculture in underdeveloped countries.
